Dear Labor Activist,
A proposal contained in the state budget released by the House Ways & Means Committee last week would exempt the MBTA from the Taxpayer Protection Act, which ensures that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely by subjecting proposed privatization measures to a cost-benefit analysis performed by the State Auditor. If adopted, this proposal would result in unscrupulous private contractors being allowed to bid on jobs and services currently performed by union workers -- with no cost-benefit analysis and no assurance that services will be upheld. Please contact your State Representative and urge them to stand against the privatization of vital state services by supporting Amendment # 665 sponsored by Representative Nick Collins, which would restore the Taxpayer Protection Act at the MBTA.
